Events

Sunday 23rd July 2006,  Peugeot National Rally, Cotswold Wildlife Park, Burford, Glos

We have received an invitation to join the Peugeot Club UK at its 25th anniversary meeting which will be held the Cotswold Wildlife Park and Gardens at Burford in Gloucestershire. The invitation extends to other French make car clubs so hopefully there will be a good variety of vehicles. We would be able to put on a display of cars with a club stand. The meeting will be in the grounds where there is public access so it will be a good opportunity to show off our cars and educate the public. Exhibiting drivers will have a free ticket to the gardens and wildlife park. The organisers want to know in advance who will be attending. Assuming that this venue falls within the indistinct boundaries of the South Midlands Section, I am happy to act as coordinator, so if anybody is interested in attending maybe they would like to contact me.

I am still looking for cars to make up a club display so if you are interested please contact me. I gather from the information that I have received that this is mainly a one day event but there is a treasure hunt on the Saturday to which non Peugeot club members are invited and there is nearby camping organised for the Saturday night for those who may wish to make more of a weekend of it.

If you would like more details of this please contact me.

Sunday 15th October 2006, Arley Estate Arboretum, Kidderminster

As I was only able to give short notice of the visit to Arley Arboretum on the 23rd April the magazine arrived after the event, consequently Jane and I celebrated the inaugural meeting of the reformed South Midlands Section on our own! The arboretum is a lovely place, very peaceful with fine views of the Severn Valley, we really enjoyed ourselves. We think it is well worth a return visit so we propose to meet there again on the 15th October when hopefully we will benefit from the autumn colours. All the relevant details were set out in the March/April edition, please do come and join us.

Arley Estate Arboretum extends to 22 acres. There is a tea room or you may picnic anywhere in the grounds. The entrance fee is £4/adult, £1/child with a discount for groups of more than 9. There is no charge for entrance to the car park or tea room. The arboretum is located off the A442 between Kidderminster and Bridgenorth. At Shatterford (on the A442) follow the brown tourist sign to Arley Estate Arboretum. (Ordance Survey sheet 138, Grid Ref:- 764805). Location maps can be found on their web site at www.arley-arboretum.org.uk. If you want an alternative attraction Arley station on the Severn Valley Railway is very close by, timetable and fares can be found at www.svr.co.uk.

Jane and I will be at the arboretum car park from 1.00pm onwards, please join us

Finally,if anybody has any suggestions for meeting venues don’t be shy, please ring or e-mail me.

Mapledurham 8th May 2004

The weather was not kind to us, and a few car (and owners) were exhausted after the Irish Tour.  However a dozen of us had an excellent lunch at The Pack Horse Inn, and then went on to visit the water mill and house at Mapledurham.  The bread I baked from the freshly milled flour turned out well. (Robin Dyke)

The meeting on Saturday 26th April 2003 at the River & Rowing Museum in Henley-on-Thames was well attended by owners and families of some 15 tractions (including two Sixes). The weather was just good enough for us to take lunch on the balcony at the Riverside Café. The three main galleries in the museum showed the history of the river, the town and rowing.

There was also a special exhibition of the role of a local water-borne home guard during the second world war.

The Woodcote Rally celebrated its 40th aniversary on 12/13 July 2003. Although primilary a rally for steam engines it also attracts a variety of other forms of transport. Besides 29 traction engines there were 157 tractors, lorries, fire engines, etc., 101 motorcycles and 187 cars - including three Light 15s. Friends in Belgium emailed to say they were watching the event on the rally site's webcam.
