Electronic Floating Power (E-FP)
Electronic Floating Power (E-FP)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Informal News & Chat for TOC Members
This is the second issue of E-FP.
On 22nd September Issue 1 was sent to the 377 TOC members who have supplied their email addresses to the Club.
39 of the emails were not delivered because either the email addresses held by the Club are incorrect, are out-of-date or because the recipient email addresses are set up not to receive bulk transmission emails.
Of the 338 TOC members who actually received a copy of Issue 1 about 50% opened (and therefore presumably) read the newsletter and about 12 responded by email to say that they thought the newsletter a good idea that should be developed further.
Future E-FP newsletters are planned for the beginning of December, February, April, June, August and October each year but as it costs the TOC nothing extra to issue ad hoc newsletters whenever the need arises newsletters may be issued more frequently.
If you have comments on the contents of this newsletter, would like to respond to any items you read here, or you have news items or snippets of information that you think might be of interest to other TOC Members please reply to: editor@traction-owners.co.uk .
September/October issue of Floating Power
The September/October edition of Floating Power was posted to all TOC Members on Tuesday 23rd September so if your copy hasn't yet arrived please contact me and I'll see if its possible to get you a replacement.
November/December issue of Floating Power
The deadline for input to the November/December issue of Floating Power is this coming Friday (10th October) - so if you have any input please get it to me as soon as possible.
My expectation is that the magazine will be ready to go to the printers by 20th October and that you should receive your copy as normal at the beginning of November.
2009 TOC Calendar
The 2009 TOC Calendar competition is now closed and the twelve winning photographs have been chosen by the selection committee.
The 2009 calendar itself is ready to go to the printers and should therefore be ready to be posted out with the November/December issue of Floating Power at the end of October.
Photo Licences
Have you checked your photo style driving licence recently?
Steve Shinebroom has drawn to our attention the fact that it is now 10 years since the DVLA started issueing the new-style photo id driving licences and that the photo id element of the licence set is subject to 'ten-year renewal' legislation.
What this means is that when your current driving licence is ten years old the photo element of it must be renewed (at a cost of £17.50 currently).
If you fail to renew your photograph you can be prosecuted for failing to surrender your old licence and for failure to supply a new photograph for your replacement licence. If convicted you could face a fine of £1000.
As well as invalidating your driving licence an out of date photo will of course also preclude you for instance from hiring a car on holiday or for using your driving licence as identification to support any type of financial transaction.
The DVLA process notifies drivers (at their last known address) of the impending expiry of their photograph two months before the event and the DVLA anticipates being able to supply drivers with replacement licences within about 14 days normally.
To check that your photo Identification card is still valid look at the front of the plastic card in section 4b (which is on the front of the card just above the smaller of the two photographs).
The date shown there is the date on which the photograph on the card expires.
To renew your photograph you need to send both elements of your licence (the paper and the plastic card) together with your £17.50 fee to the DVLA in Swansea.
Citroen Rosalie on Poirot
Eagle-eyed TOC Member Robin Dyke spotted that in last Sunday night's edition of Agatha Christie's Poirot there was a brief glimpse of Jonathan Howard's Rosalie in the scene where parents were delivering their daughters to school.
Classic Car Network
Classic Car Network is a new website for classic car enthusiasts all over the world, its purpose is to provide a platform for the ever growing interest in old cars.
As well as being a centre for communication it provides a free classifieds ads section which is split into sub categories. CNN says this makes it easy for a seller to advertise not only for cars and parts, but anything for the classic car market.
Advertisers can include up to five photographs and web addresses are linked automatically.
The service is free and available to trade and private sellers.
In time CNN believes the website will become a huge resource for information and also hopes to be able to reflect the dedication, hard work, and pleasure that so many classic car fans experience.
The website is designed so that members can add information without contacting the web administrator, you can publish your own story, add links, car clubs, video,events, news and there is even a slide show to which you can display your own car.
You can find CCN at http://www.classiccarnetwork.co.uk/ or for more information about the site you can e-mail to admin@classiccarnetwork.co.uk
Did anyone famous own your Traction before you?
A reply from Robin Dyke to an enquiry by the new owner of a Traction which said that the car had previously been owned by Dave Davies of The Kinks (for 10 years) and that Robin's own car was previously owned by Ralph McTell (of "Streets of London" fame) for about 20 years - coupled to the fact that he understands that Robbie Coltrane used to own a Traction had Mick Popka wondering what other famous people have previously owned and driven the Tractions that TOC members drive today.
If your car was previously owned by a well known celebrity please drop me a line giving details of your car and the previous owner(s) so that we can satisfy Mick's curiosity.
Do you need a banner producing?
If you need to produce a banner (or banners) for an event that you are involved with (like for example the banners that the TOC will use for the 15th ICCCR and the 70th Aniversary of the 15/6 at next month’s Classic Motor Show at the NEC) then you might like to check out the capabilities of the manufacturers of the banners used by the TOC at http://www.awardbanners.co.uk/ .
They charge £12.00 per sq m + VAT for digital printing (1 million colours) and can provide next day, UK-wide delivery for just £6.00 more.
Tractions wanted for wedding duty
I've had an enquiry from Mike Hughes who is looking to hire a Traction (or preferably two) for a wedding just north of Whitchurch, at Combermere Abbey, on the 25th April 2009.
The Traction is required to transport the bride from the venue's gate house no more than one mile towards the Abbey.
Ideally Mike would like a second Traction to transport the bridesmaids but if a second car isn't available he would be interested in using a DS to transport the bridesmaids (so if anyone has a DS that might be available could they also get in touch).
Lastly he says that if anyone has an SM they would be willing to hire out for himself and the best man that would also be much appreciated.
It sounds like he's trying to create his our own classic Citroen meet!
If any TOC members can help would they please contact Mike Hughes direct on :
